TALKING ABOUT MEDICINES
Medicines are the most important tool that any doctor can use and the most important tool that a patient would need. Some people would never like to use a medicine except in extreme cases, but definitely we are in many cases helpless without medicine and at some moment you will need a medication.

IMPORTANCE OF GIVING THE PRESCRIPTION PROPERLY
Whenever you take a prescription from your doctor, you should read it carefully. Make sure to read it while you are at the clinic so as to ask about any details. Usually every prescription should clearly give all the information about the name, dose, amount and duration of each medicine. It is very important then to follow all the instructions in the prescription fully in order to get the best results. Giving the full duration of all the medications particularly the antibiotics is very important.

WHEN SHOULD YOU GIVE THE DOSE AGAIN?
Always give the exact amount and try not to force it in the throat directly but try to give it in the side of the mouth. If the child vomits the dose of medicine within half an hour of its intake, then it should be given again. Some medications have to be given before or after feeding so it is important to keep this in mind as it can affect the absorption of medicine.

WHEN SHOULD YOU STOP GIVING THE MEDICINE?
As it is shown on the prescription, stop each medication on its due date. Also, you might be forced to stop the medicine in case of intolerance of the child to the medicine or persistent vomiting to this medicine. Allergic reaction from the medicine can also be another reason for stopping the medicine. Allergic reaction can be in the form of rash, redness or spots on the skin.

IMPORTANT MEDICINES AT HOME
It would be wise to have some medications at home in to be used in case of emergency or shortage of availability. Medicines for fever, vomiting and common cold as well as rehydration fluids are the most important medications. Some antiseptic creams as well as emollients are important at home. Plasters, band aids, and bandages are also of utmost importance to be at hand in cases of emergencies.
